Sketches from the Quiet Room, Primitive Things

October 13th, 2009

This is Jackie. Hi.

A blonde said to me, “I love dark people. The way they look at me, it’s so… primitive.
She didn’t mean it in a bad way. Okay, that would take alot of explaining.

ALOT of explaining, more than I will give.

What was I thinking about? oh.

We are recording on technology which is anything but primitive. When people can create art without the investment of the rich, technology has reached a wonderful point where it equalizes people instead of separates them. I hope.

I hate the idea of recording being a privilege.

This is new indie, a decade after all the actual indie labels were bought out.

I think.

We’re burning some short discs for free distribution. A handful of them will be hand-packaged. The working title is “Sketches From The Quiet Room”. I’m feeling inventive. It will look strange.

Rant & Roll

April 19th, 2009

Rock, if you care for a lesson in history from someone younger than you, got sick, lurched through the eighties, stumbled, fell into the early nineties and wheezed its last breath in 1995. Since then, no one but maybe Pearl Jam should’ve been allowed to call themselves a Rock n’ Roll band.

Pop music is almost entirely recycled.

Okay. You knew that. Just making sure.

I wouldn’t use the word “Emo” to describe our music, or anyone. I’ve heard that word used too often under the seeming notion that not everyone has emotions and those that have emotions deserve mockery. Because they’re clowns, here for our cruel amusement. That the word even exists as a term is what I object to, for the reasons it’s used. Do you understand?

I don’t know what we are.

Here’s some other stuff you hopefully couldn’t care less about:

To my knowledge, there has never been an all-girl synth duo. folk duo, yes. Think Yazoo, think the Eurythmics. There has never been an all-girl Guitar/Synth duo. We’re 3/4 there, one of us being trans, I suppose.

Yay.

Okay, Joan Jett can call herself a Rock n’ Roller. Iggy Pop, David Bowie… Michael Monroe (for those in the KNOW) and Bebe Buell (if you’re REALLY cool). But they’re GODS, come on.

Irrelevant Post

Oh, the concert. I met Jenny’s friends. They’re wonderful, all of them. Bright cheery huggable people. Love you all.

This is not Jenny speaking. This is Jackie. Hi.

Saturday we recorded something odd. No, not odd. Strange. Strange but not bizarre. Get what I’m getting at?

Well, it was kind of an accident. Scratch that. The way it sounded, in the end, was an accident. That said, God bless serendipity. We learned stuff, right?

You’ll hear it someday. It may take a while to edit and re-arrange into something effective.

Someday, also, we plan to write at least a few happy songs, or at least some humorous songs, but they will probably not come from me anytime soon.

We know who we are and our effect on people.

If anything, so far as my own songs are concerned, “Love Me Forever” by Motorhead (as done by Doro Pesch) has had more influence than anything.

Hello world!
